Rotary Young Musicians
Charis Wallum moved to the Scottish Borders as a child and
started playing keyboard aged seven. Her growing enthusiasm
for music led her to taking up the flute two years later. She
started playing clarsach with the Traditional Music Centre at
Selkirk High School in her second year. Since then she has played
at various venues, travelling with the school orchestra to Plattling,
the Ceilidh Band to Disneyland, Paris, and has also taken part in
many concerts, charity events and local festivals such as Both
Sides of the Tweed and Scott's Selkirk. She intends to continue
with her music when she begins studying at St Andrews
University in September.
Olivia Hoppé was born into a very musical family and music has
always played a big part in her life. She has had piano lessons
since she was 6 and started singing with the Yateley Girls Choir at
the age of 8. She is now a 5th Year pupil at Earlston High School
and enjoys taking part in their school shows, as well as those
at Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society. In February, she won
the regional Young Vocalist of the Year. Olivia especially loves
musicals and would one day like to play leading roles in "My Fair
Lady" and "The Phantom of the Opera."
Christopher Farish had recently achieved first prize at the
Borders final of the Rotary's Young Musician of the year
competition. Began playing piano at an early age - has
experienced playing in public performances, amateur
orchestras and achieved merits and distinctions from
all grades of the A.B.R.S.M. This September
Christopher Will be going to study piano
and composition at university.
